Our Symbol is the Barnett's Creek Arch, a relic of the Wabash & Erie Canal days.

The Mission of the Carroll County Historical Society is to acquire and preserve the History and Genealogy of Carroll County, Indiana, and promote the understanding to the Region, State and Nation, convey and teach the significance of Carroll County, Indiana's history to children and adults with exhibits, programs, research and genealogy.

 

Please Mark your calendars for October 15, 2009 at 6:30.  It is time again for our Annual Carroll County Historical Society Dinner at the Bringhurst United Methodist Church.  We will be serving baked steak, green beans, scalloped cheesy potatoes, rolls and of course, a variety of homemade pies.  This dinner will be prepared by the Bringhurst United Methodist Church women. Reserve your place now. Meals will be $10.00 per person.   Please have your reservation in by Friday, October 8th, 2009.

 The speaker for the evening will be Shirley Willard from the Fulton County Museum.  She will be speaking about the “Trail of Courage.”  
We also will be electing officers  for the year 2010   and we will be voting on new  Board  Member, Jerry Carter  from  Democrat Township and Margaret Allbaugh from Washington Township.    If you would like to be on the Carroll County Historical Society / Museum  Board and you are from Carrolton Township or Adams Township,  please  let us know  so we can get  you on the  ballot.  We need someone to represent these two townships.

Museum Donations

 Several people have donated money to the Building Fund in Memory of Jackie D. Moore who died October 15, 2008.  Jackie was the son of Don and Phyllis (Davis) Moore.  Phyllis Moore has been our Curator at the Museum for forty two years.  Dorothy and Sharon McCormick , Frances French, Richard Funkhouser, Tom & Betty Armstrong, Peggy Eckhart, Patricia Austin, Clayton Coffman, Barbara Nelson, Kenneth and Julie Pyle, Clyde Clopper, Carol Oliver,  Pete & JoAnn Jackson, Bob and Dorothy Mills, Rosalie Wilson, Phyllis Porter, Garnet Snyder, Geraldine Clawson, June Million Haase and Carroll County Courthouse Friends, American Legion Aux.
               
 We received a 1924 Atwater Kent Radio and Horn Speaker.  It is battery operated.  Donated by Larry and Maria Allen of Delphi,  A 1948 deepwater can looker used for Mussels and Shells- Donated by Dudley Fry of Adams Twp.  He used it at the Wabash River digging for clams.  We have four portraits of past Governors- Donated by the Auditor. We have received several photos also.

2009 Carroll County Old Settlers

Do you do spinning, crocheting, quilting, tatting, blacksmithing, pottery etc. Any other Old time crafts? We are looking for volunteers for the 2009 Carroll County Old Settlers. If interested  please call or email the Museum and let us know.

 

ANTIQUE APPRAISAL FAIR 

The Antique Appraisal Fair Committee has been working hard on the Appraisal Fair, For May 17, 2009.  We need volunteers to help on that day from 1:00P.M.to 4:00 P.M.  We will charge $5.00 per item with a limit of 2 items.  Appraisers are G. L. Smith, Jim Humberg, Doug Davies, Ed Keller, Don Hickman, Don Burkhalter, Richard Stringfellow, Howard May and Dell Bartlet, Cody Bartlett.  Items that will be appraised are:  Coins, Pottery, Antiques & Primitives (pre 1950), Collectibles (Post 1950), Glass and China, Paper Empherma and Native American Artifacts.  Proceeds from the fair will go to the Carroll County Museum Building Fund.

 

We need your help with the building Fund! We have been requested to move within the next four years. Your Donation is Tax exempt. Don’t forget us in your wills and Estate Planning.
Remember the Carroll County Historical Society in your contributions—we want to keep Carroll County History Alive.

As of January 2008, the Carroll County Historical Museum no longer receives funding for staff from the County. Volunteers from the Carroll County Historical Society will keep the Museum open and provide assistance to those interested in visiting our exhibits. We will also continue to provide assistance to those doing genealogical research on Carroll County families.

If you would like to become a volunteer at the Museum, please contact Phyllis Moore at 765-564-3152. Of course, you can also support the Museum by becoming a member of the Carroll County Historical Society.
