2,170 records are included in this file which indexes the first land records for Carroll County.  Persons listed were the first purchasers of tracts in Carroll County at the Crawfordsville Land Office.  Data includes name, date entered, township, range, and section numbers, and is taken from a typescript prepared many years ago.  The original ledger source for this information is in the Carroll County Recorder’s Office and is a certified transcription done in 1904 at the Indiana Auditor’s Office.  Some information is also taken from Helm’s Carroll County history.  Further research is needed to complete and verify records in this file.  People named may have acquired other pieces of property from the Land Office around the same time.  Another handy source for this information can be found at the Bureau of Land Management, General Land Office, Land Patent web site:  http://www.glorecords.blm.gov.
